Chris Huhne, Member of Parliament for Eastleigh

Holocaust denier abhorrent but not criminal

12.00.00am GMT Fri 21st Nov 2008

Commenting on today's news that holocaust denier Dr. Fredrick Toben has been freed from prison after the German authorities abandoned efforts to have him extradited, Liberal Democrat Shadow Home Secretary, Chris Huhne said:

"Dr Toben's views are abhorrent, but we do not criminalise free speech in this country if it does not incite violence or racial hatred.

"This was the right legal decision given our traditions. It's good the German Government has dropped its application to use the European arrest warrant in this misguided manner."
