Two pupils from St James' primary school in West End were on hand to receive computing equipment as part of the Tesco's "Computers for schools" scheme.

Eleanor Elliott, aged 9, and Adam Jones, aged 10, are pictured here with St James' head Alec Smith, Tesco customer relations manager Ann Miles and Eastleigh MP Chris Huhne.

The new equipment will allow the school to transfer its 120 videos onto dvd for the computer age and follows the collection of Tesco tokens by St James' parents and pupils.

"This has been a really helpful scheme for getting lots of new computer equipment into local schools and I am delighted that St James' has taken advantage of it this year" said Chris Huhne.

Across the country more than 2,500 schools are registered, and about £118 million of equipment has been given to schools since the scheme started in 1992 including 62,000 computers and more than 985,000 other items of computer-related equipment.

Ann Miles said: "Computers for schools is a great scheme as thousands of people from all over the area have been collecting vouchers to help their local school. It shows what can happen when the whole community gets involved, and we were delighted that Chris Huhne was here to present the award".
